Engaging a live music ensemble sets your event apart from the others. Music enhances any event as the notes weave through the crowd and create the ambience you require for your special event.  As with any other service you are paying for, you want to know what to expect. Here are a few answers in anticipation of your special event. Please feel free to contact us if you have any other questions at all.

Why do you need a shelter at outdoor events?

The instruments we play on are custom hand-crafted rare antiques. They are fragile and are very costly to have repaired should damage occur. Imagine a rare piece of wood furniture being exposed to direct sunlight or rain! As a rule, if the elements are disagreeable to a human, they most likely will be bad for the stringed instruments. We require a tent as shelter from the direct sunlight and rain simply to protect our instruments.

Would you come to our rehearsal?

The purpose of the wedding rehearsal is to organize the people involved in the series of ceremonial events. Therefore, it is not necessary for us to attend the wedding rehearsal. We have performed for many weddings and are very familiar with the ceremonial order. If, however, you have a special need for us to attend, we will do so at our regular rate, or one musician can attend at a rate of $50 per hour.

What is the musical difference between the trio and the quartet?

Simply put, the three voices of the string trio create the essential harmonies in tonal music. The added voice of the second violin in the quartet allows the melody in the first violin to be freer while the second violin provides the harmony.

Do the musicians take a break? When?

Performing is both physically and mentally exhausting. We take a 15 minute break after every hour. Of course, we will arrange our breaks to coordinate with toasts, speeches and other special moments during your event.

What assurances do I have as a purchaser of your services?

Our musicians are members of the professional organization called the American Federation of Musicians. When you decide to book one of our ensembles, we provide a contract that guarantees that you get precisely what you want and that we understand exactly what our obligations entail. Contracts are a vital part of a professional agreement.

Are the ensembles always comprised of the same members?

Tempus prefers to perform with our select members. There are times, however, when illness or previous commitments prevent us from doing so. Should this situation occur, we have strong connections with other professional musicians who can easily substitute.

How far in advance do I need to contact you for booking?

Anytime you decide you want us to play for your event, feel free to contact us to request the date. We require a contract and deposit in order to guarantee the date for you.

What will you wear to our event?

As is traditional for classical musicians at formal events, we will wear black unless otherwise requested. The folk ensembles will dress in conservative street wear unless otherwise requested.
